Lukesland Gardens are situated ten miles east of Plymouth, on the eastern side of the valley of the River Erme. Lukesland has 24 acres of flowering shrubs, wild flowers and rare trees with pinetum set in Dartmoor National Park. It is set in a beautiful valley around Addicombe Brook, with lakes, numerous waterfalls and pools. It has an extensive and unusual collection of rhododendrons. Best seen in Spring and for its Autumn colour.
In the middle ages, tin streamers worked the valley that is now the site of Lukesland Gardens. They disturbed the entire course of the stream and left piles of stone and gravel along its sides. But this can only be seen now on the moor and fields above the garden.
