Dining Out in Ashburton, Devon

Agaric, Ashburton

Map showing Agaric, Ashburton

A passion and lifestyle for Nick Coiley, formerly Head Chef at The Carved Angel in Dartmouth, for many years one of Britain's top restaurants. The simple concept is based on brief but ever changing menus employing local ingredients which are patently fresh. Opened in 2000, Agaric has quickly garnered an excellent repuation both locally and nationally, with good ratings from most of the top food guides.

Friendly and engaging staff serve the well thought out favourites and more daring touches from the Orient or Mediterranean with enthusiasm and skill. Dishes could include choices as diverse as: braised squid with tomato, white wine, saffron and black noodles or twice baked squash soufflé to start, followed by grilled whole John Dory with a watercress & crème fraiche sauce; steamed lemon sole fillets with a prawn mousseline and prawn sauce or pan-fried Devon lamb steak with an asparagus tart and rosemary gravy. While puddings could be iced ginger meringue with coffee sauce or chocolate pot. They have a brief wine list which does not lack quality, with house wines at £14.95. During the week they offer a light lunch at £11.50.

Agaric, 30 North Street, Ashburton, TQ13 7QD.

Moorish Restaurant, Ashburton

Map showing Moorish Restaurant, Ashburton

Our food is cooked to order and has a distinctly Spanish/North African theme. Tapas is our specialty; a dozen different dishes available - both meat and vegetarian at £3.50 and £4.50. A three course meal = £18.24. And we serve great olives!

Choose from tasty morsels such as fattoush, goat's cheese crostini, paprika and chilli roasted chicken wings and egg-fried aubergine slices with grated parmesan from the tapas menu, or dressed Brixham crab salad and sirloin steak with garlic butter for something more substantial. Mixing and matching is what it's all about here and Moorish does it with style.

The restaurant is open for brunch and lunch as well as dinner so if you get the urge to escape for an hour or two it is possible to do so most times of the day.

Open from Tuesday - Saturday 10am - 2.30pm for Breakfasts & Lunch. 6.30pm - 10.30pm for dinner or drinks. We are not open on Sundays.

Moorish, 11 West Street, Ashburton, TQ13 7DT.
