Dining Out in Bampton, Devon
Formerly known as The Courtyard, Blackberries is located in the attractive town of Bampton, on the edge of Exmoor National Park. This family run restaurant serves reasonably priced, homemade food that is all cooked to order.
An extensive menu of hearty modern British classics could include pan-seared duck served with spiced Victoria plum sauce; pork mixed grill, fish pies, and cashew nut paella, preceded by starters of smoked salmon or mushrooms in creamy cheese sauce. In addition to this, there is an impressive array of vegetarian dishes and a takeaway of British and Indian fare. The Sunday roast offers great value for money, while the well-stocked bar and its menu have something for everyone.

The Quarryman's Rest, Bampton
Paul & Donna welcome you to The Quarrymans Rest set in the beautiful historic small town of Bampton situated on the Devon and Somerset border. This is an area well known for its hunting, fishing, shooting and is very popular with ramblers and cyclists. The Exmoor National Park is only 6 miles away and the beautiful beaches of North and South Devon is a 40 minute drive.
With Donna overseeing the front of house, the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. Well kept real ale on the hand pumps as well as a weekly guest ale and a keen selection of wines from around the world to suit all tastes. She will happily open a bottle from the full wine list if you fancy a glass of something a little more special.
Paul has a passion for the use of local food and creates some real pub classics as well as more elaborate restaurant dishes such as homemade steak and kidney pudding, traditional shepherds pie or fillet of wild sea bass on red pepper risotto cake with confit garlic tiger prawns. All of which can be enjoyed either in the cosy bar or the comfortable restaurant. Desserts are homemade so you could finish your meal off with a tempting Pannacotta, Blueberries's and old fashioned ginger parkin. And there is always the special board that has lately included herrings on toast, monkfish wrapped in pancetta with a mildly spiced squash soup.
Food really does play a big part at The Quarrymans Rest. Much of the produce comes from the local area and our suppliers supply top quality ingredients such as Westons farm’s Devon ruby red beef. The butchers shop in Bampton uses traditional skills as well as local farmers for beef, lamb, pork and poultry. All of the cheese comes from the south west including organic Cornish Brie that is as close to any French Brie. Fish comes from Brixham Day boats, North Devon and Cornwall insuring top quality and freshness. Often to be found on the specials board are Mussels from the River Exe.
