Earl of Portsmouth, Chumleigh
The Earl of Portsmouth is a former coaching Inn on the ancient road from Barnstaple to London. Originally called the London Inn the original thatched building was destroyed by fire on the 24th August 1869. It was rebuilt by the Estate owner The Earl of Portsmouth.
Nowadays under the ownership of Graham and Sue Levick the Earl of Portsmouth is a thriving community pub as well as being the number one place to eat in the area. Sue had held Head Chef positions at Clovelly Golf Club, Orford Lodge and the prestigous Woodford Bridge Country Club. Sue specialises in food, sourced locally, much of it coming within a few miles of the village, she also makes her own bread daily, most of the real ales are local also brewed within a few miles of the village.
