Black Dog village, Devon
Black Dog is a picturesque village with many thatched houses in Mid Devon, ten miles west of Tiverton and six miles north of Crediton.
Washford Pyne and Woolfardisworthy Parish Churches both serve Black Dog village. The village lies in the EX17 postcode area and many ramblers walking the 'Two Moors Way' stop at the Black Dog Inn for refreshment.
The unusual name of the village gets stranger when it is found on old maps of the area as 'Black Boy'. One explanation is that the village is named after Black slaves working as servants on the carriages and coaches.
The Iron Age hill fort of Berry Castle, lies to the south of the village.
