Bow, Devon village, Devon
Bow is a large village stretched out along the old A3072 Crediton to Okehampton road in Mid Devon District. The village is thought to date from the 13th Century when local landowner Henry de Tracey was granted the right to hold a weekly market as well as permission to hold a 3 day feast for Martinmas on 11th November. The fair sadly died out around the turn of the 20th Century with the date being better known now as Remembrance Day.
Nearby Halse is reported in William the Conqueror's Domesday Book of 1086 as being a Saxon estate, whilst Hillerton dates from 739AD. The village lies in the EX17 postcode district.
