Butterleigh village, Devon
Butterleigh is a remote parish in a hilly area just about 4 miles westnorthwest of Cullompton in East Devon. The village church was built in the late 12th century probably between 1161 and 1184 and is dedicated to St. Matthew. The church underwent partial rebuilding in the seventeenth century and was restored again in 1861. The population of the village in the 2001 Census was recorded as 134 and has remained pretty stable over the years.
