Moorland Hotel

Grade 4 star hotel

Total bedrooms: 34

Priced from

£2000

Within 11 acres of landscaped grounds located on the open expanse of the Dartmoor National Park at Haytor. Lashings of pure country air is guaranteed huge dark night skies oceans of adventurous walking a big dollop of epic weather and wild ponies resting inquisitively at the gate. Infinite views spread out before you from every room - sea moor or Tor. Tinpickle and Rhum is the homely informal brasserie with a warm heart (log fire) and sense of humour. 2016 marks the centenary of Agatha Christie arriving here for two weeks to write her very first novel The Mysterious Affair at Styles. I booked myself a room in the Moorland Hotel at HayTor. I think I learnt to love the moor in those days. I loved the Tors and the heather and all the wild part of it away from the roads . Whilst the en-suite rooms won t win prizes for contemporary styling they are clean and extremely good value. Dogs and horses very welcome. 10 minutes from the A38 and Bovey Tracey.

The Cridford Inn

Grade 2 star hotel

Total bedrooms: 8

Priced from

£2000

They say that age is just a number well that number in question is 825 A.D. - that equates to almost 1200 years of history not under the same roof of course! br / br / br / br / Currently (and possibly) the oldest inn in the country and right in the heart of Devon The Cridford is steeped in history and charm that makes this a destination venue right off the bat! To back-up that charm an offering of over 100 gins two restaurant areas accommodation in quirky rooms and holiday cottages then this inn really has it all. Since new ownership in 2016 the team have changed with chef Bill Keera in the kitchen who is Michelin trained. But don t be put off by the word Michelin - quite often it can conjure up connotations of small portions and fancy swirls of sauce. What you will get from Bill and his team is all the quality and flavour that local produce can provide but with aportion size that will satisfy! br / br / br / br / Despite it s seemingly remote location the inn is only 8 miles from the centre of Exeter. br / br / br / br / Open 7 days a week and with special monthly theme nights pie & a pint every Tuesday for just 10 and a served Sunday roast available all day the pub is truly the hub of Trusham village. br / br / br / br / The whole package is something of an experience but with such close proximity to Exeter s shopping and the motorway this little gem is going to be rediscovered all over again.
