The British Firework Championships

Plymouth was chosen as the venue for the very first British Fireworks Championships in 1997. The city was chosen from a number of locations as the organisers 'The Event services Assocation' (TESA), felt that the city's water frontage offered a natural amphitheatre were the fireworks and other large scale pyrotechnics could be watched safely from a number of locations around the harbour and the Sound.

The two day display of fireworks is held each August and has grown steadily over the years. It is now recognised as the top annual display in Britain attracting many thousands of visitors to the city. Six professional firework display companies are selected to take part by draw each year, three appearing each night.

Devon County Show

The Devon County Show is arguably Devon's Premier event attracting close to 100,000 visitors over its three days.

The Show takes place each year in late May at the Westpoint Showground at Clyst St. Mary near Exeter, and effectively starts the season of large agricultural events in the South West region. It is followed by the Royal Bath and West Show at the end of the month, the Royal Cornwall Show in early June and in September by the Dorset County Show.
