Devon is unique in the fact that it is the only county with two coasts. Between them the 140 miles of coastline offer all sorts of options and possibilities for the beach visitor. There are fine surfing crescents of golden sand in the north with all the normal facilities and amenities nearby but there are also rocky inlets and hidden coves where you may be the only person on the beach.

The south coast offers gentler scenery with sand and shingle beaches within easy reach of all the popular holiday resorts and towns with Bigbury on Sea, Blackpool Sands and the numerous beaches of Torbay being the most popular destinations. There's truly something for everyone!

Care should obviously be taken as to the state of the tide, signage denoting strong currents, rip tides, unstable cliffs or no swimming and lifeguard instructions should always be heeded. Access to and from the beach should be noted as several of the smaller coves may get cut off at high water. Think of others and park wisely in designated areas and ensure everyone has a truly enjoyable trip to the seaside.
