Bigbury on Sea
Bigbury on Sea lies about 17 miles southeast of Plymouth on the South Devon coast.
Otherwise known as Sedgewell Cove, Bigbury is a large southwest facing crescent of golden sand with a little shingle sandwiched between Challaborough in the northwest and, across the River Avon, Bantham in the south east.
Burgh Island is connected to the coast at low tide by the sandy beach but can still be visited when the tide is in via the rather unusual sea tractor.
The beach is very popular with families as well as surfers. Facilities include a large car park behind the beach as well as a café, beach shop and surf School. Toilets are situated in the main car park. The beach is patrolled by RNLI lifeguards in summer.
A 'Seasonal Dog Ban' operates at Bigbury, meaning that dogs are not permitted on the beach from 1st May until the 30th September.
Other beaches nearby include Wonwell and Mothecombe to the northwest and Bantham, Thurlestone and Hope Cove to the southeast
