Mothecombe Meadowsfoot
Situated at the mouth of the River Erme, south of Ivybridge on the South Devon coast lie the three sandy beaches of Mothecombe Meadowsfoot, Mothecombe Coastguards and Wonwell.
Southwest-facing the beach lies approximately halfway between Plymouth and the Salcombe Estuary.
Like Coastguard's beach slightly to the northeast over Owen's Hill, Meadowsfoot beach is a large flat sandy expanse on the west bank of the Erme. The beach consists of fine golden sand and is a family favourite as well as a haunt for surfers and windsurfers.
Meadowsfoot beach is reached by following a metalled lane down from the large parking field at Mothecombe, payment is requested on entry prior to parking. The building at the top of the field is an old school house now a café with toilets.
As you sight Coastguard's Beach at the top of Mothecombe Slipway, look for a large gate to your right marked 'Mothecombe Beach'. Take the path that leads over Owen's Hill and Owen's Point to the beach.
PLEASE NOTE: Mothecombe Meadowsfoot is a private beach owned by the Flete Estate and is open to the public only on Wednesdays and at the weekend.
The Erme Estuary lies within South Devon AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), and is a SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest). It supports significant wildlife populations that are easiily disturbed. Please visit responsibly.
