Thurlestone Sands
Thurlestone Sands lies on the South coast of Devon on the southern side of Bigbury Bay.
The west facing beach consists of gently sloping golden sand, has good facilities and easy access. The village of Thurlestone lies about a quarter of a mile away to the north with more facilities if required.
Just to the northwest of Thurlestone Sands lies Lea's Foot Sand, whilst the southern section of Thurlestone Sands is more accurately known as South Milton Sands.
Incidentally, the holed rock or 'thirled stone' located offshore actually lies off South Milton Sands.
Facilities at Thurlestone Sands include a car park and seasonal lifeguards. A café is located at South Milton Sands with a shop and pub available in Thurlestone village.
The wetland area of South Milton Lea lies behind Thurlestone Sands. It contains the second largest reed bed in Devon and is under the stewardship of the Devon Bird Watching and Preservation Society. Crossed by a long footbridge, the Ley is a great place to sight herons, moorhens and reed warblers.
There are some fine walks along the South West Coast Path northwest to Bantham, Bigbury-on-Sea and the beaches of the River Erme orsoutheast to Hope Cove, Bolt Tail and Bolt Head.
