Broad Sands
Often written as Broad Sands as well as Broadsands, this is a northeast- facing aptly named beach. A broad stretch of red Devon sand, the beach lies near Paignton at the southern end of Torbay on the South Devon coast.
Situated about a mile (1.6 km.) south of Goodrington Sands, the beach looks across Tor Bay to Torquay.
Popular with families due to its easy access, the sand has excellent castle building qualities. Good facilities, with chalets and deckchairs for hire as well as pedaloes and boats.
Shops and cafés lie nearby as well as two sets of Public conveniences. Parking is just behind the southern end of the beach.
The grassy headland seaward of the Golf Course is Churston Point.
The South West Coast Path follows the coast closely to the mid-point of the beach where it heads inland. Do not look for any routes at the northern end of the beach. This is a waste of time as there aren't any. The Coast Path meets the sea again above Shell Cove and Saltern Cove on its way north to Paignton and Torquay.
There are also some fine walks south and east to Elberry Cove, Churston Cove and Brixham.
