A component part of Devon Great Consols in the Tamar Valley, part of the West Devon Mining District. The mine situated about a mile north of Gunnislake on the eastern banks of the River Tamar. The mine worked for Copper and Arsenic from four main lodes: Main Lode, Middle Lode, South Lode worked from Richards' Shaft, Hitchens' Shaft and Agnes Shaft. New South Lode was worked from Counthouse Shaft. Richards' Shaft worked at a maximum depth of 300 fathoms (1800 feet or 548.64 metres) and was the deepest working on the Devon Great Consols Sett.
