Sortridge Consols including the nearby North Wheal Robert and East Wheal Robert is located almost two miles southeast of the village of Whitchurch near Tavistock. Although the two Wheal Roberts were worked together, Sortridge Consols was not linked to them and operated as an independent concern. The chief lode worked on was Main Lode although there were several other numbered lodes on the sett.
Sortridge Consols developed Main Lode from Engine Shaft, Western Shaft and Eastern Shaft. It commenced work in 1854 and operated until 1871.
Production records for Sortridge Consols state that between 1854 and 1869: 7,792 tons of 8.0% copper was raised as well as an insignificant amount of tin and arsenopyrite (mispickel).
