Surprise Mine, Devon

Otherwise known as Whitchurch Down Consols, Surprise mine lies two miles southeast of Tavistock and immediately south of Devon Burra Burra. The mine worked two copper lodes from three shafts and dates from the 1790's. It is known to have been at work in 1810, between 1851-54and also between 1856 and 1859.
