Owlacombe and Stormsdown mines are situated 2 miles south sou'west of Ilsington near Bovey Tracey. Owlacombe Mine, was formerly known as West Beam Mine and includes Wheal Brothers on the west of the sett and Wheal Union on its eastern section. The mine later worked with Stormsdown Mine when it was known as Ashburton United Mine. There are a number of lodes including Great North Lode, North Beam Lode, South Beam Lode, Union (or Brothers) Lode. Shafts include Hobson's Shaft, Parry's Shaft, Murry's Shaft, Western Engine Shaft, Union Shaft, Engine Shaft, Main Shaft and South Shaft. The lodes contain mainly arsenic with some tin.
Production records report that in the years 1854, 1863-66, 1887 and in 1909 - 1,460 tons of arsenical pyrite (mispickel) and 348 tons of black tin.
