Otherwise known as South Devon United Copper Mine, Brookwood Mine is situated two and a half miles west sou'west of Ashburton. It includes East Brookwood Mine, Newbrook Wood Mine and Wheal Emma. The mines worked from the following shafts: Martin's Shaft, Engine Shaft, Pixton's Shaft, Emma Shaft and Whim Shaft.
Production records report that for Brookwood between 1861 and 1877 - 20,719 tons of 6.25% copper ore was raised. As South Devon United between 1880 and 1885 - 8,189 tons of 5.25% copper ore and 84 tons of mispickel were raised. For Wheal Emma between 1856 and 1877 - 14,562 tons of 5.5% copper was produced.
