Bridford Mine, Devon

Situated about threequarters of a mile east of Bridford Church, this lead mine was formerly known as Bridford Consols. It commenced working searching for lead but there are no records of any production for this mine, In 1855 a barite (barium sulphate) ore body was discovered with 35 tons raised that year. In the period 1857 to 1896 Bridford is reported as having an output of 15,500 tons
