Also known as Bowden Common and Bowden Hill Mine, East Chillaton Mine lies 4 miles north of Tavistock in West Devon. The mine is known to have been at work prior to 1847 and worked Bowden Common from no less than nine shafts producing 132 tons of manganese ore between 1875 and 1877, as well as 61 tons of manganese ore between 1881 and 1883
