West Friendship, Mary Tavy Mine, Devon
Tavistock: grid reference SX485796
West Friendship Mine commenced work in the mid 1840's on a wave of publicity generated by the successful (Devon) Friendship Mine.
The mine worked three copper lodes: North Lode, Middle Lode and South Lode (Great South Gossan Lode) from Engine Shaft working on and off until 1858 when it was offered for sale. A new company restarted the mine in 1863 but this venture was unsuccessful and the mine was finally abandoned in 1866.
The only records of production were of 177 tons of 5.25% copper ore raised in 1858.
