Gawton Mine otherwise known as Devon Gawton and also Gawton United is situated one mile east sou'east of Calstock in the West Devon Mining District. The mine worked Copper Lode and Arsenic Lode from Engine Shaft, Bayly's Shaft, Pearce's Shaft, Fuller Shaft and produced tin, copper and arsenic. The mine area was last worked in 1926 when copper was precipitated from the run off from the surface dumps. A very extensive site, thought to contain over 120,000 tons of material.
Production records report that between 1852 and 1902 - 21,876 tons of 4.5% copper ore, 22 tons of black tin, 1,435 tons of pyrite, 3,000 tons of mispickel and 15,650 tons of arsenic
