Otherwise known as Buttspill Mine and New Tamar Valley Mine, Green Valley Mine, Wheal Fancy and Bere Alston United Mine. The mine lies just across the Tamar River from Calstock and is thought to date from at least Elizabethan times. It was reopened in 1843 as Green Valley Mine, being renamed Wheal Fancy a short time later as it was taken over by new owners. After another period of closure the mine was reopened again as Bere Alston United Mine in 1855. It worked from Western Engine Shaft.
Production records state that output between 1870 and 1876 was 95 tons of 74% lead ore, along with 650 ounces of silver and 620 tons of fluorspar. In 1885-86 as Tamar Valley Mine, it raised 90 tons of fluorspar.
