East Lady Bertha Mine, Devon
Tavistock: grid reference SX477669
Notable minerals: Chalcopyrite.
East Lady Bertha was a small concern lying on the southern slopes of Berra Tor. The mine lay south of the sett of the Virtuous Lady Mine sett and to the east of the Lady Bertha Mine sett in the parish of Buckland Monachorum south of Tavistock. The aim of the owners of East Lady Bertha was to try and work a supposed eastward extension of the profitable Lady Bertha Lode to the west. Although the sett was prospected between 1856 and 1860, it was basically nothing more than a trial and the workings were abandoned in 1862. Nothing now remains of this venture.
